Agape Church turned to LIVE Design Group to help convert a historic abandoned building — the old Woolworth building in the center of town Laurel, Mississippi — into a facility that served as a church, a new community center, and a catalyst for urban renewal.
Together in a LIVE Design Session, the team developed a renovation concept that captured the personality of the congregation while maintaining the historic facade. The new facility hosts weekly worship services for Agape while also serving as a community center and performance venue for the city of Laurel. The roughly 12,000-square-foot building contains a new lobby space, a small café and children’s classrooms that double as community meeting space.
In 2016, Pastor James Johnson-Hill turned to LIVE Design Group once again to develop Phase Two of the project which would create an adult classroom space, a masterplan concept for a community outreach space, a 600+ seat auditorium, a three-story central atrium, commons area, flex space, catering kitchen, nursery classrooms, children’s classrooms, and support spaces and future expansion space.
Today, Four One Five City Centre is the home to Agape’s rapidly-growing church, as well as an anchor of revitalization in downtown Laurel.
